It’s the month of love and the world will celebrate all sorts of love in a couple of days. On the designated 14th day of February, some of us will measure how much we’re loved by the value of the gifts we get. Some relationships will end because people will base the love they share on one day that the world calls the day of love, and some of us will be pressured to follow what other people define as love and do the craziest things to let friends, family or significant others believe that we truly love them.
While all of that is going on, I want to remind us about the love I have tested and found to be true. Love that doesn’t celebrate me only on one day out of the year, but every day of my life. Love that forgives me and doesn’t hold my faults against me. Love that is patient and kind (1 Corinthians 13: 4). Love that sacrificed without expecting anything in return from me.
I want to remind you about this love that holds me down even in my mistakes. When I’m unfaithful, this love remains faithful. When I fall short this love steps in to lift me up. I can’t count how many times I’ve forgotten about this love, but when I remember it, it’s exactly where I left it, waiting with open arms to welcome me back.
The love that I'm talking about is slow to anger and abounding in faithful love, forgiving iniquity and rebellion (Numbers 14:17). It corrects in love and continues correcting until I get it right. This love endures forever (Psalms 136:26). It is love that honors every promise it has ever spoken. Love that gives and speaks life into me (Ephesians 2:4-5).
Everyday, I enjoy the love that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate me from (Romans 8:38-39). This love is consistent; it doesn't change because of what I have or have not done and is not based on any mood or feeling. This love is new every morning, it's refreshing and it revitalizes. I can go on and on about this love because I learn something new about it every day!
And guess what? This love is available to any one who wants to partake of it. There are no requirements or qualifications to be loved like this. You don’t have to belong to any class, or look a certain way. You don’t have to pretend or keep up appearances and you don’t even have to pay to enjoy this beautiful love. You don't have to perfect. All you need to do is to come as you are. Jesus is waiting to show you unconditional love. Love that will transform you and teach you to love others just as Christ loves you!
Love,
Alice
