A few days ago, I was taking my earrings off when I dropped one of the posts. It was pretty small and it fell on the carpet. I tried looking for it and after about a minute or so, I gave up. I have tons of earrings so it wasn’t a big deal. All I had to do was pull a post off another one when I was ready to wear this earring again.
The following morning, I tried looking again, but still didn’t find it so I used a post from another earring and went about my day. I totally forgot about this incident. It was pretty insignificant and it wasn’t the first time that I had lost something; I have lost more valuable things in my lifetime.
A few days later as I was getting ready for the day, I saw a shiny gold post on the bathroom floor. I got very excited and quickly picked it up. I can’t explain the joy I felt. Even though in my mind, this was nothing valuable, I was more than happy to see it again.
In that moment, God reminded me about the scripture in Matthew 18. He said “Look at how excited you are about finding your post. You have so many other earrings, some of which are more valuable than this one, yet, you are extremely happy about finding this lost one. Now you have a minute idea of how heaven rejoices when one person, who lost their way in their journey to me, comes back!” What a revelation.
In Matthew 18 from verse 10 to 13, Jesus talks about the parable of the lost sheep, and even though I’ve read it many times and sung Cory Asbury’s Reckless Love hundreds of times, I haven't been able to relate directly to this scripture until now.
It truly is exhilarating when we find our way back to God! Heaven celebrates us, and even though we may not be able to see it, God is beyond happy to have us back.
If for any reason, you’re doubting your return to the Father, know that He’s looking for only you. Don't get me wrong - the ninety-nine others who haven’t gone astray are important to God, but its not in God’s will that even one of His children will perish. You are the one He wants - Don’t second guess yourself and don’t question it, come back to the Father today.
Love,
Alice
