How many times have we found out after the fact that our close friends or family talked about us behind our backs? Wouldn't it be nice to hear gossip when it's happening, so that you can defend yourself? The lies or stories that people have told about us may have caused some of our relationships to go sour, and may even have made us lose certain opportunities. But you see, gossip happens and has been happening from the beginning of time. No matter who you are, people will talk about you, criticize, and sometimes even tell lies about you.
In the Old Testament of the Bible, Moses’ own brother Aaron, and his wife, Miriam in the privacy of their home began criticizing Moses because of the woman he had chosen as a wife. His family was supposed to be his number one support, but after several years of Moses being the leader and authority figure, they were a little tired of him, and maybe even jealous of how God was using him. They went further to compare themselves to him and sarcastically asked if Moses was the only one God spoke to or the only Prophet of their time. But they forgot who Moses was, and which God was for Him.
As they spoke, God listened to them and immediately summoned Aaron, Miriam and Moses into a meeting. Mind you, Moses was oblivious to what had transpired prior to this meeting that God had called. Once they were before Him, God called Aaron and Miriam forward and rebuked them for their ill talk.
As I was reading about this in Numbers 12, the Holy Spirit whispered to me. He said “It’s easy for God to fight our battles for us if we let him.” Rather than be in constant battle with what we can’t see, we can let God do the work for us. Moses was not perfect yet he talked to God face to face; He would literally go into a meeting with God and have a real conversation with Him. This same man could change God’s mind, and Moses was human just like us.
All through the books of Exodus and Numbers, there’s a common theme: Moses’ obedience! Every thing God said, Moses followed to the letter, without question. The Bible tells us that Moses was a very humble man, and that humility is what made Him honor God and serve Him faithfully.
While Moses was busily working for God, God was busily fighting for him. If we want to enjoy the Moses Advantage, we need to be obedient and submit fully to God. In order to submit fully to Him, we must be humble.
God was fighting for Moses even when he was not aware he was being attacked because his focus was on God and obeying His will. When we let God take front and center stage in our lives we will see His hand in every area of our lives. God's anger will burn against anyone and anything that tries to work against us if only we will obey His every instruction. Read God's Word, walk in obedience, have faith and pray, and watch God fight for you like He did for Moses!
Love,
Alice
